Football

Our Boys Football Club for Years 5 and 6 takes place on a Mondays from 3:15pm – 4:30pm and is run by Mr Walsh.

New for 22/23, we now offer a girls Football Club on Wednesdays from 3:15pm - 4:30pm.

For the first few weeks of the school year we use the grassed area on the schools grounds and then we will have the option of the 3G pitches at Guinea Gap Sports Centre. When we start to use the 3G pitches, there should not be any reason to cancel due to bad weather.

Children will need appropriate kit (no school uniform allowed) and because some children wear football boots with studs, we would advise all children to also wear shin-pads.

The club is designed to improve the skills of the children and introduce them to playing in competitive games. The school teams will be chosen from the children in the club so it is very important that they attend every week, unless there is a good reason. Those who attend regularly will then be given a place in our Riverside Premier League (R.P.L.). This is at the same time on a Monday and gives them the opportunity to be part of a team and do their best in a competitive, sporting and enjoyable League.

KS1 Dance / Drama Club

Mrs Rice-Oxley leads a KS1 Dance/Drama club on Wednesdays from 3:15pm - 4:15pm. We love to explore Traditional Tales - role playing and exploring the characters and favourite phrases. We work together as a team and build our confidence in speaking and listening. We enjoy dancing to music, playing parachute games and imagining that we live on the moon, in the jungle or in the sea. We use our minds and bodies to transport ourselves to an imaginary world...

Power Pack

Power Pack is a very special club for children who have had some emotional trauma i.e. bereavement.

We meet weekly; usually on a Thursday lunch time. This gives the children time to talk in a safe, secure and nurturing environment. We also do fun, therapeutic activities and visit Laser Quest, parks and forests.

Our highlight was going to Barnston woods for forest fun and sharing our memories of our loved ones that we miss.

We are hoping to raise enough money to build a sensory garden for these incredibly brave children.

STEM Club

Riverside STEM Club is an after school session that enriches and broadens the curriculum, giving young people the chance to explore subjects like science, technology, engineering and maths in less formal settings. Our club is an important outlet to ignite new interest and to raise attainment in STEM subjects through more imaginative and inventive teaching methods. The selected pupils take part in a range of activities including:

Science - we explore the world around us whether it be in the classroom or out in our forest garden. Investigations, questioning and discovering is at the heart of our activities. We have looked at habitats and created hedgehog homes, electricity - creating live circuits using dough, plants and so much more.

Technology - food technology – making stir-fries, pizzas, smoothies and more. Teaching them the importance of healthy eating and making choices not only to support their bodies but the environment too. Computing – using green screen to discover the techniques used in TV and film. Internet research, coding and CAD (computer aided design).

Engineering – from Roman catapults to who can create the strongest straw tower. Our pupils enjoy being competitive and discovering new ways to think and create, striving to better their creations.

Mathematics – we weave mathematics through all of our activities, whether it be measuring ingredients or calculating results. Children make strong links to what they have learnt in class and apply it to our club teaching others and expanding on their understanding.

Reading Club

Every child will have the offer of joining our After School Reading Club during their time at Riverside Primary.

Last term, a group from Year 6 and Year 4 joined us. This term, another group from Year 6 and Year 4 are taking part in our reading club.

We meet once a week to discuss our favourite books, authors and share stories, poetry and plays.

In December, we had a special Christmas treat and visited Waterstones bookshop in Birkenhead. A great time was had by all enjoying our festive cookies and hot chocolate but the most challenging task of all, was choosing ONE book from the shelf to take home.
